Reline Request.
It is not uncommon for clients to request a reline.
Unfortunately, they are self diagnosing and have come the conclusion that a reline will refit the dentures to the origional fitting surface and that all problems will be solved.
Unfortunately denture satisfaction can not be easily restored as the computer is by pressing the re-set button on the keyboard.
There are many elements that go into deciding the satisfaction status of denture comfort both in eating, speaking, swallowing and smiling that a simple reline can rectify.
In many cases it is more economical to remake the complete dentures that try to rectify dentures that are past their 'functional use date' or have been recently incorrectly made.
As a professional Clinical Dental Technician I am not going to take money of clients where I know a reline is not going to satisfactorally fix all their problems.
It would be similar to a motor mechanic who fits a new engine into a body of a car that is rusted and will not pass the MOT.
The most common causes for not relining are:-
Dentures liable to fracture due to over use of breach based products and boiling water usage and were they are excessively thin.
Were the teeth are worn excessivelly and relining will cause excessive pressure on the bony supporting structures.
Where the facial profile is severly distorted and damage will result on the supporting muscles, tendons and temperomandibular joints near the ears.
Where the denture is the only denture they have.
