Legal Advice: The Dental Profession is composed of many disciplines with unique areas of responsibility. In order to maintain a high standard of care to private and NHS patients the General Dental Council which is our regulatory body charges us as professionals to undertake a 'Duty of Care'.
One such aspect is Scope of Practice. This is an element in our responsibility which require us to restrict our work with patients to within our scope of competence.
The GDC has therefore issued a Scope of Practice section on their web site and a register from which the public can consult to check the status of any dental care professional working within dentistry.This allows anybody to see if a dentist or dcp is suspended, registered or with restrictions, their registration number and their qualifications.
