There are two methods of impression technique that I generally adopt.
1.The Standar Upper and Lower denture technique
2.The modified 'Copy Technique'.
3. Combination of the above two techniques.
1. The standard Upper and lower denture technique
2.The Modified Copy Technique
Were the impressions are taken inside the patients dentures. This method requires the client to leave me a set of dentures to allow me to reproduce a 3D template.
The impressions produced are 'second to none' as they use the existing patients fitting surface as an accurate base. The wash thin silicone supplied by Schottlander has been used by me for over 20 years and produces superb results, especially in the upper palate were the retention is that of two pieces of flat glass with a thin layer of saliva as a sealant.
Lower denture retention is obtained by a different principles that of tooth position and border periphereal shape. This last factor must be in harmony with the soft and controlling muscule tissues of the lower jaw.
When the presenting previous set of dentures are badly worn then a temporary wax and colorbite modification is used to correct any faults prior to the prototype dentures being set up for try-in.
The word Copy does not however mean a accurate copy, as in many cases clients may need modification in order to for functiion, phonetics and appearance to be improved.
